Wow. Anacostia has a Starbucks!

Three years ago, when we moved into the neighborhood, Maple View Flats, the 114-unit, mixed-use building on MLK Ave was a giant whole in the ground. But just months later, in October 2017, the Mayor’s office announced that Maple View Flats would host Ward 8’s first standalone Starbucks!

Good things come to those who wait. Anacostia’s new Starbucks is huge! It even has a community room for local organizations and groups to hold meetings in. And of course, it comes with the required Anacostia flair.

Frederick Douglass, the Sage of Anacostia, and Chuck Brown, the Godfather of GoGo.

Now we just need a grocery store…and with luck we will have one soon. Construction has started on the Martin Luther King Gateway Complex at the intersection of Good Hope Road and MLK Ave. When finished, it’s going to bring another 14,000 square feet of retail and 20,000 square feet of office space.

And…Its prospective tenants include another sit-down restaurant and fresh market.

See you guys at the Starbucks! It’s open now for carry-out.
